Celine Gros beat current World Cup leader Sabrina Jonnier to take the win at this weekend’s French National Champs 2009 - Championnat de France VTT in Oz en Oisans. Celine qualified 9 seconds ahead of Floriane Pugin with Sabrina third, and held onto the lead for the finals, with Sabrina surpassing Floriane in the final run to finish second, Floriane third and Myriam Nicole in fourth. There was no separate category for Juniors at the Champs this year, but top juniors Anais Pajot and Fanny Lombard finished fifth and sixth respectively, with Anais just 6 seconds off the winning time.
There was no women’s fourcross this year due to low entrant numbers, but aparently riders who wanted to enter were being told not to enter ‘due to low entrant numbers’. Frustrating for those wanting to race 4x! For DH, competing at the National Champs is required by the FFC (Federation Francais de Cyclisme) for the French riders to compete at World Champs. Current World Cup Number 2 Emmeline Ragot broke her ankle in practice, but should still qualify to race Worlds based on past results. Watch out for her at next week’s World Cup round seeing if she can race anyway!
