Helen Gaskell took out the fouth round of the National Points Series 4 in Caersws, Wales, on the weekend. She beat Mojo Orange rider Aimee Dix who finished second despite a crash earlier in the day. Third place went to Leisure Lakes rider Emma Wareham in her first podium of the series on her yellow V10 ‘banana bike’. Nice.
The course was short, steep in the top section and flat in the bottom, and for once the UK riders got to do skids in the dust not the mud. Emma Wareham described the last part of the course as “a bombhole jump and big step down into the finish field, and in the field were two of the most random jumps you’ve ever seen – the bottom one was lethal because it was quite windy, so many people crashed off it. 4 or 5 people were going round it in race runs.” The racing was also delayed for half an hour due to the organiser’s attempts at wireless timing… but it all worked out in the end.
There are some shots of the racing on Southern Downhill here.
