Jill Kintner posted the fastest time in the qualifiying for the Canberra World Champs 2009 today. It was close though, with both local ripper Caroline Buchanan and Anneke Beerten finishing within 0.5 seconds of Jill’s time. Czech rider Romana Labounkova was fourth and European 4x Champ Anita Molcik of Austria was fifth. Jill’s posted on her blog about it already, you can read that here.

There was more practice under lights after qualifying, with riders using the time to get more of their lines dialled on this lengthy track. Everything can change in race runs in four cross, and there are some interesting match ups in the start list that will be exciting to watch. The twelve women enterred will start the racing with four 3-person 1/4 finals, which see the two Australian riders Caroline Buchanan and Sarsha Huntington in the same heat alongside Joanna Petterson. The last quarter final will be very interesting too, with last year’s champ Melissa Buhl matched up against World Cup number 1 Anneke Beerten and World Cup number 2 Fionn Griffiths. And with over 50 seconds of track that’s challenging technically and physically, anything could happen…

If you’re not here in Canberra, remember you can watch it live on Freecaster.tv in less than 24hrs. We’ll have extra video and photos afterwards.
