American BMX Olympic medallist Jill Kintner has had some bad luck in 4x this year – but luck is part of what 4x is about. But there wasn’t much luck involved in tonight’s victory at todays racing for the Fort William DH and 4x World Cup 2009, just great riding. Jill had the fastest qualifying time and carried on riding well through to the final, where she clinched the win over Caroline Buchanan in second. Round 3’s winner, Fionn Griffiths, showed it wasn’t all luck last time by clocking up another podium in third place. Melissa Buhl came fourth – both she and Fionn are racing DH as well, and with it being a huge course they’ll be hoping they have some legs left for tomorrow.
Former series leader Anneke Beerten won the small final to finish in 5th. In the Men’s, Jared ‘The Gravy Train’ Graves took the win with Romain Saldini in 2nd and Lukas Mechura in 3rd. His win puts Yeti Fox Shox Racing Team in the lead over Anneke Beerten and Emmeline Ragot’s Suspension Centre team, which had been ahead in the World Cup 4x Series up until this point. Fingers crossed for them to take back the lead – no offence to Gravy, but for a team to include two women is pretty special, and their series lead thus far shows that it has been a good choice for Suspension Centre.
Here are the results, from the UCI website:
