Race for Tara Two raises $8500

All accounts of the recent Race for Tara 2 event at Sandhill Ranch describe it as a great day for all involved and a huge success in raising money for injured rider Tara Llanes.

You can check out more about the event from Tara’s point of view on her MySpace blog – head to www.tarallanesroadtorecovery.com and click ‘leave a message for Tara’, it will take you to her page. You can also donate online at www.tarallanesroadtorecovery.com, or buy tshirts and other products (yup, they ship ANYWHERE in the world).

Tara is raising money for her medical costs and intensive rehab prgram so she can walk again. The US has a user-pays health system unlike many other countries, such as New Zealand,  where ACC would cover it. Imagine how much that’s costing financially as well as the physical and emotional stress :(  Go Tara!

Much of the money was raised by a raffle of donated products from an impressive range of sponsors, according to her blog. Giant bikes, Easton wheels and bars and stems, Fox Shox forks, Michellin tires, Smith sunglasses, Chris King headsets, Bell helmets and Giro sunglasses, Troy Lee helmets, Syncros bars, Ride SFO stuff, Santa Cruz t’s and hats, a Raliegh frame’. Good on those guys for helping her out!

There was also a mountain cross race, with a total of 13 categories for the guys, ranging from 6-10 year olds to 40+. Here are the women’s results:

Amateur Women (all ages):
1st: Sandra Ross, Redding
2nd: April Malvino, Concord (Hank & Frank)
3rd: Juliana Quintero, LIvermore (50/50 DH Racing)
4th: Glenda Barnhart, Oakland (Bay Area Bikes)

Pro Women:
1st: Lainey Aldridge, Santa Cruz (Gravity Addix)
2nd: Tasa Herndon, Statekine, NV
3rd: Kelly Moore, Monterey
4th: Rosie Bernhard, Santa Cruz (Another Bike Shop)
