Rachel Atherton - Off the bike, but onto your screen

2008 World Champ Rachel Atherton is still having ongoing problems after crashing her bike into a car in january, but will be joining the Freecaster commentating crew for some of the upcoming World Cup rounds.

Animal Commencal team director Dan Brown told DirtMag.co.uk: “The nerve in Rachel’s shoulder has seen little improvement over the past four weeks so the surgeon has taken the decision to operate. We’re hoping Rachel will be back in training in around three to four months so there’s still a chance she will compete at the World Championships in August.”

You can read more about it on Rachel’s blog here, including all the gory details about using nerves from her leg to patch up her arm so she can get back to doing 40 pressups in a minute. Hardcore!

In the mean time, Rachel is still travelling with Animal Commencal, and is currently hanging out with her bros in Houffalize, Belgium, watching the world cup fourcross. Apparently she’s going to be doing commentating for Freecaster, so check that out, the do live coverage of the DH and 4x as well as uploading the 4x finals top 3 runs of the DH. Should be cool to have a commentator who knows a lot about the riders to give it a bit more depth. Go Rachel!
