The Elite women’s field was lacking depth at this weekend’s Levin - Round 3 NZ National DH Series 2009 with riders either injured, away, or opting to not travel to this one. The course was a challenging route through pine trees with some big jumps and technical sequences, and included step-downs, step-ups, doubles, chutes, rocks, roots, off-camber – everything you could want in a DH course really! Get yourselves here for next time there’s an event, it’s a very cool track.
Race day saw most of the Junior Women going hard and hitting the big end jump in the close battle for the top spots in the combined Open Women category. Once again Madeline Taylor won, followed by Sophie Tyas and Sophiemarie Bethel. Only two Elite women were racing, and newbie-Elite Rita Langley crashed massively in front of the specators by pulling a no-footer-to-faceplant on the last jump and was too concussed to race, leaving it to Harriet Harper to take the win for the race and the series.
