Shanaze Reade injured - pulls out of 4x debut

BMX and track star Shanaze Reade was intending to make her 4x debut at Fort William and attempt to add another World Champ notch to her belt in Canberra (read more about it here).

Shanaze injured her shoulder crashing due to loose stones on the track, but it’s not clear if she was riding BMX or 4x at the time. The crash has exacerbated an old injury and will require keyhole surgery to fix the problem for good, but this will mean a whopping four months off from racing. As well as missing out on the 4x, this means Shanaze won’t get to defend her World Champ BMX title in 2009. Gutted!

Shanaze said in a press release: “I’m very disappointed that I can’t race at the BMX World’s this year. I really wanted to get out there and defend my title. I’m also disappointed that I can’t make my mountain bike debut in the 4-cross at the World Cup. My focus now is on recovery and getting back into training as soon as I can, so I can begin my preparations for London 2012.”

And hopefully the surgery will fix the problem for good so she can kick ass in 2012!
