Tracy Moseley wins round 1 of the 2009 Maxxis Cup

2008’s World Cup number 3 Tracy Moseley won the first round of the Maxxis Cup  by nearly 20 seconds over her nearest rival, showing she’s in good form for 2009.  Fellow UK riders Jessica Stone and Katy Curd placed second and fifth respectively (apparently Katy had a mechanical), with third place taken by France’s Sophie Borderes, and fourth byAriadna de Barros of Spain.

The race was held on a dry, dusty track in Gouveia, Portugal, which must have suited Tracy's new Trek. The first round of the Maxxis cup is often a good pre-World Cup indicator of who’s riding well, but most of the Elite Women World Cup top ten from 2008 didn’t ride. Rachel Atherton still hasn’t raced since injuring her shoulder. Sabrina Jonnier is in the US getting her new bike, Emmeline Ragot was in NZ… Anyway, we will have to wait till April for a real show-down. A lot of the Elite riders are heading to South Africa for the SA National Series a week before Pietermaritzburg DH and 4x World Cup 2009.
